Jewish American Literature: A Norton Anthology
Jewish American Literature presents work of 145 writers, from 1654 to the present, writing in all genres—fiction, poetry, drama, essays, letters, editorials, journals, autobiography, cartoons, song lyrics, and jokes. Generously represented are the classic writers who have shaped the tradition, as well as younger writers. The editors trace the breadth and depth of America’s rich Yiddish-language culture, as well as Hebrew writings in America, and offer special sections on “Jewish Humor,” “The Golden Age of the Broadway Song,” and “Jews Translating Jews.” The anthology includes helpful tools—a general introduction, period introductions, author headnotes, explanatory annotations, and selected bibliographies.
